About
WebKarne is an open research project that measures the digital security posture of domains in Türkiye.
Purpose
To make a domain's security configuration understandable without requiring technical expertise. Measurements are designed to be measurable, reproducible and explainable.
The goal is not to shame a site, but to give its owners and users concrete, fixable information.
Academic context
WebKarne is part of a thesis project. It develops and applies a consistent method for measuring domain security across a Türkiye sample.
Method decisions and measurement rules are documented; findings are recorded so they can be reproduced.
Ethics and limits
All measurement is passive and relies only on publicly available data. No attack, unauthorized access or intrusive probing is ever performed.
Every request honours a timeout and a rate limit; measurement is carried out so as not to burden the systems being measured.
Open source
The measurement code and method are open; anyone can inspect how we measure. Transparency is the basis of trust in the results.
Raw data is retained and the method is documented; the details are on the Open Data and Methodology pages.
